Obituary

George A. Thomas, 85, of Irving, TX, passed August 4, 2018. George was born to Brisco and Louise Thomas, September 20, 1932 in Louisville, KY. He received a BA from California State Fullerton, and married Betty McClain Thomas in 1954. Together they had five children, and were married 63 years. He leaves as his legacy four children: Chuck Thomas, Cindy Ringness, Cheryl Goff (her husband, Bill Goff) and Charlotte Glover (her husband, John Scott Glover). He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Also cherishing his memory are three siblings, Lois Weatherholt, Marydora Conley and Valerie Lyons. He was preceded in death by his son, Chris, two brothers and three sisters. George had a successful and long career as an Engineer at Bell Helicopter until he retired in 1982 at 50 years of age, and became a Real Estate Investor, making him known and respected in his community. From March 16, 1951 to March 16, 1955, he served in the U.S. Navy on U.S.S. Shoveler AM 382, a minesweeper having the dangerous task of removing mines from mine fields lain in the water to prevent ships from passing. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. A spirited, cheerful and social person, he could affectionately be described as the Life of the Party. He was actually larger than life. He was friendly and talked to anyone and everyone. He enjoyed working in the yard, watering and playing pranks on the neighbors. His family paid this tribute to him: "He loved telling jokes and acting silly. In fact, he always asked if he could get a discount for being good-looking!" Having you in life was a blessing, remembering you will be easy .. you will be missed beyond measure. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, August 9,, and the family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2:00 pm at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at Donnellys, 606 West Airport Freeway (Hwy.183), Irving, at 2:00 pm. The family would like to thank all those who cared for him and nurtured him at the VA hospital. If you would like to give donations, the family requests that you give to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Georges name. SERVICES
