Obituary

Gayle M. Johnson, age 72, a longtime resident of Irving and Southlake, TX, died Saturday, August 15 from complications of Alzheimers. Born August 21, 1942 in Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late Julius M. and Caroline A. Johnson. She married Kenneth M. Johnson on September 2, 1961, graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelors degree in Home Economics, and began her 40-plus years as a teacher and principal for the Irving ISD. Gayle is survived by her husband, Kenny and they wouldve celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in just a few short weeks. She is survived by her sister Mildred Dwyer, of Remington, VA., as well as her daughter Diana and son-in-law William Burton of Clearwater Beach, FL, her daughter Denise and son-in-law Stuart Oliver of Flower Mound, and her daughter Dawn and son-in-law Brian Jones of Southlake. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren Aubrey Shipman, Vivian Shipman, Bradley Shipman, and Madison and her new husband Charles Asprey. Gayle loved her family and worked tirelessly to be a good wife, a good mother, a good teacher, and a good friend. She served on the altar guild at church, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, she was active in her social sorority Zeta Tau Alpha, Pairs and Spares at The Redeemer, and she was always the consummate hostess at their annual Nail Soup dinner party. She loved getting together with neighbors and friends, wherever she lived. Gayle was proud of her love of sewing, always dressing her three daughters and later her four grandchildren in matching outfits. She loved baking for her family and friends and made sure her grandkids were helping with plenty of cookie dough and fruit preserves. Gayle will be dearly missed and will forever be loved by all whom she knew. We will celebrate her life on Saturday, August 22 at 4:00pm at The Episcopal Church of The Redeemer, 2700 Warren Circle Irving, TX, 75062 with Fr. Mike Wallens as celebrant. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimers Foundation of America at www.alzfdn.org. May the Lord forever have Gayle in HIS Glory, and may she shine even brighter in His arms in Heaven.
