Gary J.
Mooney
Jun 6, 1947 — Nov 11, 2024
Gary Joseph Mooney, age 77, passed away Monday morning, November 11, 2024, at his home in Fort Worth, Texas. Gary was born June 6, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, to late George Ellis Mooney and Gloria Frances (Kersten) Mooney.
Now we won't hold it against Gary for being born in California because before too long he was formally entrenched in the Texas way. He is survived by his wife, Linda Darlene (Stringer) Mooney, and his three stubborn and independent daughters, Kobie, Joey, and Alison. Additionally, he is survived by four of seven siblings, David, Danny, Gloria and Pamela and preceded in death by George Jr., Beverly, and Steve.
Gary took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Kailynn, Brennan, Austin, Teagan, Deklynn, Brenly, Kashton, and Zayden. He made it his mission to goof off with them and tell the best jokes. And as only a father of three girls can manage, took a "I guess you'll do" approach to his son-in-laws, Bobby, Kurt, and Steven and his grandson-in-law, Aaron. {Smile folks, it's a joke. One Gary would love.}
Gary was a force to reckon with. An avid runner, Gary completed in countless races, four of which were the Boston Marathon. Running became a family event, and many weekends were spent participating in or attending races. Gary coached track teams, encouraged friends to get out there, and cultivated a "can-do" attitude. Every step, even past the point where he couldn't take one, Gary persisted. From owning his own asphalt company to climbing the ladder to VP, Gary's employment and determination secured his family a bright future; each in his wake, going to college and beyond. He loved a good book, lending a hand, embarrassing his children… oh the stories. His mischievous humor and quick wit, often left others either scratching their heads or smiling and shaking their heads.
Gary lived life with focus and determination but most importantly, with purpose. Some of his final thoughts were of happiness for his children and to ensure their well-being. The impact he has had on those who love him, will ripple into generations forever. He knew he was loved and boy, did we know he loved us. What better legacy to leave than that?
In lieu of a Memorial Service, a Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later time.
