Freddy Smith was born on March 12, 1932, in Dutton, Oklahoma, to Katie McDaniel Smith and Fred Smith. As the youngest of eight children, Freddy grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He graduated from Verden High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry from Oklahoma State University.
Freddy served his country with honor during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. His dedication to duty and his country was a testament to his character.
In 1958, Freddy married his first wife, Mary Jack "Jackie" Williams and they relocated to their home in Irving, Texas, where he lived until 2023. Although they had no children of their own, their home was always filled with the love and laughter of their nieces and nephews. Jackie passed away in 2006, leaving a void in Freddys life.
Years later, in 2013, Freddy found love again with Molly Susan "Sue" Martin, a widow he met in his singles Sunday School class at MacArthur Boulevard Baptist Church. After a brief but meaningful courtship, they married and spent a precious year and a month together before Sue also passed away. Through Sue, Freddy gained a new family of three stepdaughters and eight grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years.
Freddy passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Katie and Fred Smith; his beloved wives, Jackie Smith and Sue Smith; and all seven of his siblings.
Freddy is survived by his stepdaughters, Susan Prather, Sharra Weaver, and Shelly Kraal, along with their spouses. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Nate Folk, Rachel Folk, Jesse Prather, Molly Prather, Mandy Weaver, Kyler Weaver, Skyla Kraal, and Braiden Kraal, as well as eight great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Freddys extended family, including Loretta Monsey, Mark Smith, Pattie Hansen, Keith Hall, Darla McDaniel, James Smith, Dana Vardeman, and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, will forever remember him with love.
Freddy was known for his kind heart and beautiful smile, touching the lives of all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
