Erbin E. Jones, Jr. (Gene) passed away March 21st at home in the company of his loving daughter Jenifer. Gene was born in Ponca City, OK on December 5, 1930. He graduated from Shawnee High School in Shawnee, OK. His family then moved to Pawhuska, OK and that is where he met his future bride Sidney Ann Shook. Eventually, he moved to California and joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years. When he returned to California he married his lifelong partner of 65 years Sidney Ann on June 9, 1954. They moved to Kansas City for Gene to attend Dental School at University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC). In 1957 they welcomed their daughter Jenifer Ann Jones. He graduated from UMKC College of Dentistry with dual degrees of General and Surgical Dentistry. He then went into private practice in Kansas City where they lived until 1969 when Gene went with the Department of Veterans Affairs in St. Petersburg, FL. From there they moved to Pittsburgh, PA with the VA to complete training in Prosthodontics. The family returned to Tampa, FL but eventually settled in Arlington, Texas. Gene was the Assistant Chief, Central Dental Lab from 1978-1985 at the VA North Texas Healthcare System. In 1985, he was made Chief, Central Dental Lab and then added a 2nd position, Chief, Dental Service to his list of accomplishments from 1996-2006. While working at the VA, Gene also worked for 30+ years at Baylor College of Dentistry as Asst. Professor. He worked as a faculty member and taught in their 3rd Floor Clinic. He provided much needed knowledge and support to the students and patients regarding restorative lab support. Gene retired from his lifelong service at the VA and Baylor College of Dentistry on Feb. 2nd, 2006. Wherever Gene and Sidney lived they were active in the Episcopal Church, especially after Jenifer attended Vacation Bible School in Kansas City. She signed them up for everything. They loved St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Kansas City and found their final church home in Irving, Texas at St. Marks Episcopal Church. Gene lost the love of his life Sidney Ann on November 19, 2019. His daughter Jenifer lived and cared for her Mom and Dad until their deaths. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erbin E. and Vessie Heard Jones, Sidneys parents Sidney Alvin Shook and Frona Elizabeth May Shook, sister Dorothy Holt, nephew Gene Holt, great-nephew Blaine Rickman, brother-in-law Richard (Doc) Shook, sister-in-law Grace Big Elk, niece Vicki Goff and nephew John Goff. He is survived by his daughter Jenifer Ann, sister-in-law Marilyn Kyler of Pawhuska, nieces and nephews Cheryl Rickman, Debbie Hendrickx, Kathleen Brooks, Vanessa Legere, Dana May, Melody May and many loving grand-nieces and nephews. Services will be held April 18, 2023 at 1 pm at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 516 S. OConnor Road, Irving, TX 75061. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in the name of Erbin E.
