Douglas "Doug" Duane Williamson, 84, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 1, 2021, in North Richland Hills, Texas.
The son of Dee Forrest Williamson and Olena May Williamson, Doug was born on June 19, 1936, in Morton Valley, Texas. Doug graduated from Eastland High School in 1954 and attended college at Hardin-Simmons University and the University of Texas at Austin. In 1959, he joined the Air Force and served until 1962 when he was honorably discharged. He married Merla Rae Miller in 1963.
While working for General Dynamics at night, Doug attended the University of Texas at Arlington to complete an undergraduate degree in accounting, followed by earning his Certified Public Accountant designation (CPA). He worked for the State of Texas from 1972 to 1993 as an auditor before establishing his own accounting firm, Doug Williamson, CPA. He formally retired from accounting in 2014.
Doug was a lover of all things in nature. His passion was to work in his garden and give to others the beautiful vegetables and flowers grown under his supervision and care. He loved animals of all sizes, but especially his dogs. It was common for Doug to provide care for numerous lost or abandoned animals that wandered into his yard.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Faye Wright and brother Gerald Dee Williamson.
Doug is survived by his wife, Merla Williamson of North Richland Hills; two daughters, Angie Fanning and husband John of Abilene, Texas and Deborah Williamson of Brooklyn, New York; four grandchildren, Anna Grace Fanning, Hailey Fanning, and Evan Fanning of Abilene, and Alex Woolard and Amber Woolard of Wall, Texas; his sister Kathryn Baker and husband John of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A committal service with full military honors will be held at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Road at a later date. Sincere gratitude is expressed to Mike Korzenewski at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home for his assistance in this arrangement.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorials made to the Humane Society of North Texas or any animal rescue organization of your choice.
