Obituary

Dorothy Mason passed away on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 after a short illness. Born Dorothy Lucille Hubley on February 8th, 1928, to Joseph and Ann Hubley in Hastings, MN, Dorothy was the second of four children in the family. Dorothy attended school in Hastings, and graduated in 1946. During that same year, Dorothy met the love of her life William "Keith" Mason of Brownfield, TX. Keith had served in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater from 1942-1946, and was later employed on a pipeline project in southern Minnesota. After Keiths return to Texas and his employment with Mason Oil Company, Dorothy and he continued corresponding with one another by mail and phone, and after accepting his marriage proposal in early 1947, Dorothy journeyed to Texas. She began her new life in Lubbock, TX on July 1st, 1947. In the next six years while residing in Brownfield, Dorothy and Keith had two sons, Michael Wayne in 1948 and James Stephen in 1950 and one daughter, Diane Marie in 1952. In 1953 Keith joined Magnolia Petroleum Corporation (subsequently Mobil Oil) in a career that took them to twenty-four locations throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, where their fourth child, daughter Suzanne Marie was born in 1961, Mississippi, California, Oklahoma and Michigan until his retirement in 1985. It was during these years that Dorothy met many of the other Mobil families that became her lifelong friends. Dorothy and Keith settled in Irving in 1972, where they resided until her death. After Keiths retirement, Dorothy and he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in RVs, and spent many summers in South Fork, CO, and their winters in south Texas. Dorothy was passionate about fishing from early childhood until late in life, and had great interests in cooking and baking, reading, knitting, ceramics, and canning/preserving. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, and her son, James. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Keith Mason, of Irving, TX; her son Mike and wife Rebecca Mason, of Vancouver, WA; her daughter Diane House, of McKinney, TX; her daughter Suzanne and husband Judson Barr, of Irving, TX; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy had a wonderful sense of humor instilled early in life by her father; a strong devotion to her Catholic faith; boundless pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and was admired and respected immensely by her friends, family, and all those who knew and cherished her. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to her favorite charities: Cal Farleys Boys Ranch, St. Judes Hospital, the Alzheimers Association, or the American Diabetes Association. Service will be on Monday, October 26, at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2330 Cheyenne Street, Irving, TX 75062. Family will receive friends an hour prior to mass. Burial will be Tuesday, October 27, at 2:00 pm, at Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield, Texas.
