On January 8, 2017, Dorothy joined her beloved Ray in heaven. Dorothy was born in Waco, Texas and is preceded in death by her parents and husband. When her heart could beat no more, she died peacefully in her sleep under hospice care. In 1954, Dorothy graduated from Baylor with a Home Economics degree. She was employed by Texas Power and Light in Lufkin. It was at the swimming pool in West, Texas that she met her everything Ray. That meeting lead to a 61-year marriage and three children. Grandchildren include: Zachary, Erika, Tyler, Courtney, Ryan Tyler and Elizabeth. She adored her three great grandsons: Landry, Gage and Taylor. Dorothy was proud to be a homemaker and secretary to Ray when he needed assistance with his Allstate agency. The annual Atkinson Christmas open house was and event not to be missed. She proudly served on a federal grand jury for 18 months under US District Judge, Sarah T. Hughes. Dorothy was a member of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church. She was a faithful Ranger fan. She will be interred at the National Cemetery beside Ray on January 19th. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Irving Cares or the American Heart Association. Thank you to the Brookdale Irving staff for their loving care.
