Obituary

Doris Starkey Scoggins, 86, a resident of Irving, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on April 29, 2026. She was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, and graduated from Texarkana High School.

Doris built a distinguished career in administrative and executive leadership, including serving as Vice President of Finance for Rosco, Inc. A true path-builder in a male-dominated industry, she made history as the first woman elected to an executive role in the National Wallcovering Association.

She married her high school sweetheart, Prentice Dewey Scoggins, on July 13, 1957. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before he went to be with the Lord in 2024.

Doris's love for the Lord guided every aspect of her life, from her work to her devotion to family. Early in her marriage, she served faithfully in her church, including teaching a Sunday School class for young married couples. She later found her calling with the founding of Fellowship Church, where she embraced a vision of what God could build. Doris served in many roles—both official and behind the scenes—but her most cherished title was "First Lady of Baptism," reflecting her deep joy in celebrating life change. One of her proudest moments was her ordination into ministry in 1999.

She is survived by her son, Prentice Alan Scoggins and his wife, Marian; her daughter-in-law, Jan Scoggins; three grandchildren, Brenna Kathlene Newman and her husband, Derek, Nicole Diane Brown and her husband, James, and Jenna Elizabeth Scoggins; and five great-grandchildren, Austin Ray Newman, Landon John Newman, Chayce Nicole Brown, Chloe Mae Brown, and Alan James (AJ) Brown.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Prentice Dewey Scoggins, and her son, Dewey Brent Scoggins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. Visitation with family will begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by the service at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas.
