DONNA ABATE SHAFER, age 70, a resident of Arlington for 10 years formerly of Irving and Simpson, Illinois, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Medical Center of Arlington. She was born March 11, 1941 in Gary, Indiana to parents, Walter Stone and Emma Hacker Stone. Donna was a Registered Nurse serving at Medical Center of Arlington, hospice care at Baylor Medical Center at Irving and Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. She was a loving wife and mother. Preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, first husband, Thomas Bigda, second husband, William Abate, third husband, Leon Shafer and son, William Abate, survivors include her daughter, Danielle Anna Massey and husband Jeff of Pace, Florida; sons, Andrew Abate and wife Sharon of Irving, Joseph Abate of Mesquite, John Abate of Sikeston, Missouri and Neil Bundren of Metropolis, Illinois; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and best friend, Judy Walker of Chicago, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association.
