Obituary

Dixie Leann Detchemendy Hawkins of Colleyville, Texas went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 18, 2024. She passed away peacefully, at home. Dixie was born on April 8, 1939, in Joplin, Missouri to parents Howard and Irene Detchemendy and moved to Commerce, Oklahoma as a child. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1957. Upon graduation, she married the love of her life, Wylie J. Hawkins. They soon started a family, having two children, Kim and Wylie (Mike). After the children started school, Dixie worked for an Irving orthodontist and then worked at Irving High School as a resource teacher. Dixie and Wylie joined MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church in 1967, where they were both active members. Dixie taught the 4-year-old Sunday School class for 40 years and later became a greeter at the front doors of the church, where her beautiful and warm smile welcomed visitors and members alike. Dixie lived out her Christian belief every day and her faith was real to the very end. She had many life-long friends at church and loved her church family dearly. She was a loving and devoted wife for 55 years and a caring mother for 65 years. Known as "Mimi" to her eight grandchildren, she took the time to invest in each grandchild, and has left a strong and lasting impression on each of their lives. Dixie was a blessing to all who knew her. She was a true Southern lady with charm and class, never without her lipstick, and always dressed her best for every occasion. We have been deeply influenced by her life and will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Irene Detchemendy, brother, Bobby Max Detchemendy, and husband, Wyle J. Hawkins. Dixie is survived by her daughter, Kim Renee Meador, and son-in-law John Meador of Colleyville, Texas. Also, by her son, Wylie Michael Hawkins, and daughter-in-law, Sandy Hawkins of Granbury, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Cody and Matthew Hawkins, Kari, Caleb, Katherine, Joshua, Joseph, Karoline, and great granddaughter, Sloane Meador. SERVICES
