Derol Todd, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 and is resting peacefully in the palm of Gods hand. He had lived in Chandler Retirement Apartments in San Antonio for the last eight years, but previously had lived in Irving, Texas for 58 years. Derol grew up in south Austin and attended Austin High where he won a state UIL award in theater. He went on to the University of Texas where he excelled on the debate team. He graduated from UT School of Law in 1940. After completing his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Derol moved to Fort Worth to work for Aetna Casualty and Surety as a claims supervisor. While acting in the Little Theater at First United Methodist Church, he met the love of his life, Theda Cook, to whom he was married for over 60 years. They spent 58 of those years in Irving, where they raised their family. They were active members of First United Methodist Church in Irving where Derol taught the Homebuilders adult Sunday school class for 49 years. After retiring from Aetnas office in Dallas, Derol spent the last 10 years of his work life with the law firm of Bailey and Williams. He and Theda spent a number of years of their retirement traveling both in the US and internationally. Since moving from Irving to Morningside Ministries at Chandler Estate in San Antonio in 2007, Derol was an active member of the resident community and especially loved performing with the readers theater group, The Chandler Players. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William H. Todd, Jr, and his beloved wife, Theda. He is survived by his daughter, Gail T. Raney and her husband, Marc of San Antonio; his son, David Derol Todd and his wife, Bonnie Bell of Ashland, Oregon; three granddaughters: Julia R. Rodriguez and her husband, Eric of San Antonio; Ann R. Derol was a remarkable human being, characterized by his quiet humbleness, unwavering ethics, sharp sense of wit, resilience and grace in difficult times, ability to tell a story, love for reading and writing, oratory skills, kindness to all, and under it all, his dedication as a faithful servant to God throughout his life. We will all miss him dearly.
