Mr. David Kenneth Sweet, died at his home in Irving on Sunday January 5th; he was 56. He died in his sleep in front of the TV waiting for his friend to pick him up to go to dinner for his birthday. That was a perfect day for David.
David was a resident of Irving, Texas for most of his life. David suffered from autism and was intellectually impaired due to Fragile X Syndrome. He struggled with this all his life but he was able to live independently and make his own decisions
David loved fishing and movies, and we all hope there will be lots of both where he has gone to. He had a large circle of friends, many of which he knew from church or from camp; he stayed in contact with all his friends. He was baptized at and attended Watermark Community Church and especially enjoyed the men's group he was part of there. The highlight of David's year, every year, was Joni and Friends Family Retreat at Camp Allen in Navasota, Texas
He would pack up his fishing pole and tackle box and a load of Dr. Pepper (and a lot of other stuff), head to camp, hope for a chance to ride a horse, and ask if there was going to be any night fishing that year. Although Fragile X Syndrome may have slowed his step, it did not dull his heart. He lived up to the "Sweet" name and, through phone calls and emails, kept in constant contact with his many friends. He enjoyed a good joke, he loved listening to conversations around the table and, at the camp talent show, his skits always drew loud hoots and hollers. Some years, he would even set aside some of his camp activities to help with younger campers. We will long remember his bright smile, his love of friendship, and his concern for others. Our lives are emptier without the expectation of his faithful phone calls, but we look forward to our reunion with David when our days are done.
David was preceded in death by his mother and father, Kenneth E. Sweet and Shirley J. Sweet. He leaves behind his brother, Mark Sweet, and his aunt and cousin Becky and Casey Cox, cousin Debbie Kay Kearney, Aunts and Uncles Jim and Marge Hutton, Anne Himes, Joe and Susan Bearden and Jerry Bearden and many, many cousins.
David's funeral service will be 10:45 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2020 at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211, Lane #1.
