David Conrad Patterson
September 8, 1944 – October 23, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Conrad Patterson, 81 of Irving, Texas. David passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 23, 2025, at his residence in Irving. He was born on September 8, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, the beloved son of Raymond and Annie Lee Barlett Patterson.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he learned the value of hard work, loyalty, and service—principles that guided him throughout his life.
Following his time in the Navy, David built a successful career with LTV and later Baker Drywall, where his leadership, work ethic, and high standards earned him great respect. He was a natural leader—tough, fair, and hardworking. If you worked for David, you had to be good at your job. He expected the best from others, but never asked anyone to do something he wouldn't do himself. It became a running joke that new hires were sent to work with him to see if they were worth keeping—if David didn't fire them after two days, they knew they had a keeper.
Outside of work, David loved the simple, meaningful joys of life. He could often be found fishing on Lake Grapevine, spending time at the American Legion with his fellow veterans or tending proudly to his garden. A gifted cook, David loved preparing meals for family and friends, often hosting legendary fish fries that brought everyone together. He was also a skilled woodworker who created beautiful, handcrafted furniture pieces that will be cherished for generations. At home, he was known for his signature "big squeeze" hugs, given to anyone who didn't hug him tight enough.
David met the love of his life, Margie Belshe, in Long Beach, California, and together they built a wonderful life filled with laughter, devotion, and family. Married for 61 years, their love was an enduring example of faith and commitment. His love for his wife was steadfast and tender. Their laughter and easy affection filled every room, a beautiful example of lasting love. She was truly his treasure.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Annie Lee Patterson, and his brother, R.L. Patterson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margie Patterson; his children, David Lee and wife Kelly Patterson, and Darlene Blue; his siblings, Barbara Peterson, Darrel Patterson, and Glenn Patterson; grandchildren, Jake Patterson (Lizzie), Tess Settles (Cory), Justin Blue (Bridget), Keri Faller (Jack), and Faith Patterson; and great-grandchildren who were the joy of his later years.
A graveside service with U.S. Navy military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life service will follow on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Coppell Bible, 751 W. Sandy Lake Rd., Coppell, Texas 75019.
David will be remembered for his cheeky humor, his laughter, his love of family, and the way he made everyone feel welcome at his table. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and generosity will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to Building Homes for Heroes - https://buildinghomesforheroes.org
