Colin Ritchie Shumate, 72, of Dallas, Texas passed away on May 21,2023 after a long illness. Ritchie was born on August 14,1950 in Ashtabula, Ohio to parents Vernon and Thelma Shumate. He grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio and moved to the Dallas area in the early 1970s. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Freddie Shumate and sister Pamela Shumate Ashley. Ritchie is survived by his beloved wife, Randee and daughter, Michelle Tilghman. He is also survived by sisters, Barbara Jackson of Daingerfield, TX, Sally Shumate of Ashtabula, Ohio; brothers, Harry Shumate of Max Meadows, VA., JC Shumate of Farmers Branch, TX, Emmett Shumate & wife Shannon of Jackson, MS., David Shumate of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. He served in the US Army from 1969 -1972 with tours in South Korea and Germany with the Corp of Engineers. He worked for Schlumberger Ltd. in Houston, TX. for several years before returning to the Dallas area. Due to his love of wood working, he began working for Carpenters Local 429 for several years before retiring. He was an avid sportsman and loved fishing, hunting, golf and his pets. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. A special thanks to Barbara, niece, Sharon and all of Randee and Michelles friends who supported them during this difficult time. A military committal service will be held at 3:15 PM on June 9, 2023 at the DFW National Cemetery where he will be interred with military honors.
