Obituary

Charles (Chuck) Lewis Kirk, age 75 passed away August 15, 2021. He was residing at the VIP Senior Living Center at the time of his death. Chuck was born August 9, 1946 in Enid Oklahoma. His parents were Tyrus (Ty) Kirk and Mary Louise Hart Kirk. He is survived by sister, Kay Branch of Irving, Texas, nieces Kristen Belmonte of Irving, Texas, Patty Coward of Abilene, Texas and nephew John Kirk of Garland, Texas. He is also survived by great nieces Britni Belmonte of Irving, Texas; Scarlett and Harper Coward of Abilene, Texas; Gracie Kirk of Missouri; great nephews Marco Belmonte, Jr. of Irving, Texas and Grayzien Coward of Abilene, Texas; and several great, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ty and Mary Louise Kirk, his brother, Robert (Bob) Kirk and his grandparents Guy B. and Edith Johnson. Chuck graduated from Sherman High School. He received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State University). Prior to his retirement ten years ago, he had worked for North Texas Council of Governments; United Way of Greater Dallas; and UCP (United Cerebral Palsy). Chuck moved to Irving in 1993 and quickly became involved in many things, contributing both his time and money. He was very generous and giving. Chuck volunteered with the Parks Department, the Irving Tree Board and Keep Irving Beautiful (where he was serving as Vice President at the time of his death). He also became very active in the Irving ISD serving on the Campus Improvement Committees for Nimitz High School, the Secondary Reassignment School (SRC), and at the time of his death, Bowie Middle School (for the past 17 years). He did this despite the fact he had no children in the Irving ISD. He also served on the board of Irving Schools Foundation. He also volunteered at the hospital working many, many hours for Penny Huddleston. Chuck loved to watch Kristen and then Marco and then Britni play sports. He also watched Nancy Chapman (Bowie) and Crystal Graham (Lamar)coach and adopted those kids as his own. Until he became unable to attend games, Chuck was an avid supporter of the teams of Bowie and Lamar Middle schools and Nimitz High School. He watched softball at Nimitz High School for at least the past 30 years, becoming lifelong friends with parents of children he never knew until he became the "daddy" of Nimitz softball girls. He started the Nimitz Softball Booster Cub and served as President for several years. He supported many adult womens softball teams, (long after his sister was no longer involved), because his middle school/high school girls had moved up to adult games. He was a fixture at Irving Boys baseball and Irving Girls softball. He was the greatest fan of all time and he will be missed on the fields, gyms and arenas in Irving, Texas. Chuck Kirk was an amazing man who touched many, many hearts in Irving. He became a surrogate dad to so many. Some were friends of Britni and Marco, but the majority were athletes playing on teams coached by Nancy and Crystal in middle school and he just continued to watch after they moved to high school. He loved to watch games, but mostly. he just loved to be with people. On August 15 at 4:29 pm, he greeted his mama, daddy and brother walking on his own two legs, with no crutches or braces for the first time in 72 years. He never let those bother him but know that now he is running free. Rejoice in that. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Friday, August 27th, at Colonial Funeral Home. The service will be live-streamed. This is the link to the service: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85844981348pwd=dEtzMG1KYWlWaG9tb0JsMmJhSmVqZz09 The service will go live just before 5:00 PM on Friday. .
