Charles "Charlie" Edward Cates, 83, of Carrollton, formerly of Irving, and East Texas, died Monday, July 15, 2019 in Carrollton. Born February 13, 1936 in Kaufman, Texas, he was the son of the late Otis Cates and Lois G. Bryan Cates. He married Joe Ila Livingston October 10, 1953 in Oak Cliff. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2016. He was a foreman with Reyerson Steel for many years before his retirement. He was Baptist. Preceded in death by his wife Joe Ila Cates, his parents, a sister and brother in law, Jimmie Lee and Bill Fesmire, he is survived by his children, Allen Cates and wife Shirley of Flower Mound, Mike Cates and wife Rhonda of Irving, and Sandra Prosen and husband Robert of Lewisville; a sister Brenda Rodges and husband Jerry of Grapevine; eight grandchildren, Jeffery Allen Cates and wife Christy, Eric Wayne Cates and wife Rosemond, Amy Renee Young and husband Taylor, Chad Michael Cates and wife Heather, Kendra Lee Cates, Whitney Gabrielle Anderson, Matt Prosen and wife Felisa, and Sarah Maatouk and husband Mo; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Grace Cates, Thomas Cates, Asa Cates, Hayes Cates, McKenzie Cates, Teagan Cates, Guyton Young, Thatcher Young, Brooklyn Cates, Faye Prosen, Aria Prosen, Ella Prosen and Mia Maatouk. The family will received friends 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving, Texas. The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6000 South R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232. SERVICES
