Obituary

Billy Wayne Hodges, known to family and friends simply as Billy, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Bedford, Texas, at the age of 90.

He was born on April 27, 1936, in Booneville, Mississippi, and carried the values of hard work, kindness, and devotion with him throughout his life. Billy lived a life marked by quiet strength and steady generosity, and he was cherished by all who knew him. He was a loving, generous, and selfless man whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around him.

Billy retired from Goodyear, where he served as a Quality Inspector. He took pride in his work and was respected for his dependable nature and careful attention to detail. The same dedication he brought to his career was reflected in every part of his life. He was a man who believed in doing things well, treating others with respect, and helping whenever he could.

Outside of work, Billy found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved doing woodwork, spending time outdoors, and tending to his garden. These interests were more than hobbies to him. They were expressions of the patience, creativity, and appreciation for nature that shaped his days. He especially enjoyed being outside, where he could work with his hands and enjoy the beauty of the world around him.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar M Hodges and Maranda K. Taylor Hodges; his siblings, Bob Hodges, Winston Hodges, Hazel Woods, Edith Gullett, Vivian Tennison, Frances Smith, Betty Steward and Louise Modlin; his nieces, Carolyn Ashmore and Lynette Likes and his nephew, Bobby Neal Woods.

Billy had a big heart and a deep love for his family. Although he had no children of his own, he was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews, who treasured their Uncle Billy and the many memories they shared with him. Diane Johnson, Janice Milton, Ann Skinner, Sydney Reid Woods and his wife Martha, Rhonda Nelson and her husband Robert, Laura Moak and her husband Darrel, Linda Larkin and her husband Jack, and Don Steward all held a special place in his heart. He was a steady and caring presence in their lives, and his love for them was evident in the way he spoke, the way he listened, and the way he gave of himself so freely.

Those who knew Billy will remember not only his gentle spirit, but also the traditions and memories that made him so special. Growing up, he helped his mother in the kitchen, where he learned to make fantastic cinnamon pickles and fried pies that truly tasted like heaven. These cherished memories remained part of his story and reflected the close bond he had with his family from an early age. He carried that love of home and family throughout his life, and it showed in the way he cared for others.

Billy Wayne Hodges will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who were blessed to know him. His life was one of quiet goodness, faithful service, and heartfelt devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and selflessness that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
