Obituary

Bill Wayne Owen was born in Dallas, Texas on October 17, 1958, to Carroll and Dorothy Owen. He died peacefully at his home in Irving, Texas on Wednesday, February 9 at 63 years old. Bill graduated from Irving High School in 1976. He went on to attend the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration. From a young age, he lived and breathed "aviation." Bill began his aviation career at American Airlines, but eventually found his way to Southwest Airlines-and he never looked back! From his first day at Southwest in 1990 to the day he retired in 2018, Bill built a reputation for being an incredibly gifted communicator and for being one of the foremost experts in network planning in the industry. He also had an uncanny ability to memorize flight schedules for numerous airlines and aircraft--often looking up in the sky and proclaiming the destination (and often flight number) of an aircraft taking off. When Southwest started a blog, Bill was the first in line to author blog posts. Forever a storyteller, Bill's blog posts were honest, hilarious (at times), expertly crafted, and they were wildly popular. In fact, he became somewhat of a celebrity within Southwest. Bill was a colorful person who lived life with gusto! He adored cooking in his spare time, collecting innumerable cookbooks and binge-watching countless hours of Food Network. Bill is survived by his husband, Kent Henry, his son Tyler Owen and wife, Janet Owen, stepdaughters Aurora Henry and Leila Henry, and his two grandchildren Vivian and Parker Owen, whom he adored. Bills Celebration of Life begins at 11 AM on Saturday, February 19 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, 6911 Lemmon Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House or The Peace Officers Memorial. SERVICES
