BETTY LOU PETERSEN, age 82, a resident of Irving for 30 years, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at a local care center. Born January 3, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George B. and Margaret Opie Smith. She married Robert B. Petersen May 14, 1952 in Coral Gables, Florida. He preceded her in death June 21, 2001. A homemaker, she was a member of Northgate United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter JoAnn Petersen McGonagill and husband Clay of Florida; two sons, Robert Bruce Petersen and wife Dianne of Michigan and Richard Owen Petersen of Irving; a brother George Smith of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Devon McGonagill Hardy and Bryan Clay McGonagill; two great grandchildren, Ava Ruth Hardy and Solomon Brent Hardy; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis Brent Petersen and wife Becky and Joan D. M. Petersen, all of Florida. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Northgate United Methodist Church, 3700 W. Northgate in Irving.
