Obituary

Bette Mae (Germ) Crawford, 89, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Double Oak, Texas, on March 26, 2016. Born December 7, 1926, in Pueblo, Colorado to Joseph and Margaret Germ, Bette grew up in Pueblo and graduated from Central High School. She was employed at Colorado Supply and New York Life in Pueblo, and at St. Josephs Hospital in Denver. In 1954, she began a new adventure and moved to New Orleans where she worked at Gerard F. Tujague, an import/export business. While in New Orleans, she met Albert D. (Dick) Crawford and the two fell head over heels for each other. They married at Assumption Catholic Church in Pueblo, Colorado, in 1957, which was next door to her childhood home. Seeking a better life for their young family, Bette and Dick eventually moved to Irving, Texas in 1962 to raise their four children. They were charter members of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, where Bette was in the Ladies Altar Guild and a member of the Associates of the Sisters of Holy Family of Nazareth. In the 1970s and 80s, Bette worked as an employment counselor for both Greens and Metroplex Recruiters, retiring in 1989. For the next 20+ years, she enjoyed volunteer work, travelling around the U.S. with her husband and family, and spending time with her four grandchildren. Bette is preceded in death by her husband, Dick (2008). She will be missed by her children: Dan Crawford of Irving, Shawn (Larry) Harris of Austin, Lisa (John) Chittenden of Grapevine, and Susan (Kathy) Crawford of Double Oak; grandchildren Beth (Adam) Uszynski of Victoria, Katherine Harris of Austin, Michael and Cody Chittenden of Grapevine; and brother Hank (Dawn) Germ of Pueblo, Colorado. Special thanks to CareMountain and her wonderful caregivers this past year, as well as to Vitas Healthcare for the hospice nurses and team who made her last days comfortable. You are special angels!
