Bill was born on February 14, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland to Arnold Emory and Annabelle Marie (Chambers) Black. His family moved to Irving, Texas when Bill was just a toddler, and where he continued to live until his demise. He graduated from Irving High School and attended college at the University of Texas, Arlington. On June 7, 1968, he married the love his life, Sue McElyea. The love and adoration they had for each other for 57 years, 9 months and 20 days, was beyond measure. Bill worked in retail sales for Buddies Hardware, Drug Emporium, and CVS until his retirement.
Bill was a very witty man and could make up a funny or bad joke in the blink of an eye. Due to his love for lots of butter on his rolls and crackers, he acquired the name of "Butter Bill." He was a loving husband, super Dad and a great Poppy to his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was a superb son, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and a wonderful friend to many. Bill certainly will be missed by hundreds of families and friends.
During his last few days on earth, Bill said "I hope God is smiling down on me and saying, "a job well done." We think he did.
He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Left to cherish Bill's memory is his wife of 57 years, Sue "Siouxbee" Black; children, Susan (husband, Danny) Thomas, Patrick (wife, Marchelle) Black, John (spouse, Tres Whitley) Black and Christopher Michael Lindsey Black; Grandchildren, Jayden Thomas, Danielle Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Cameron Black, Collin Black, Caitlyn Black, Madison Whitley and Cole Whitley; great granddaughter, Josephine Black; brothers, Joe (wife, Marcie) Black and Jim Black. Brothers-in-law, Jimmy McElyea and wife Cindy, and Billy McElyea and wife Barbara. Sister-in-law, Sandie North and husband Jack. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.
We love you and will miss you Butter Bill.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
