ANNE ELLISON HOOD passed away on Sunday morning, January 6, 2013. Anne was born in Jellico, Tennessee on February 15, 1931 to Lucille Clark and William Ray Ellison. They preceded her in death as did her siblings: William Ray Ellison, Jr., Doris Robinson, and Rachel Trick. Anne graduated from Carson Newman College and went on to earn her masters degree from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Anne gave her life to full time Christian service. After serving at churches in Madisonville, KY and Fort Smith, AR, Dr. W. A. Criswell called Anne to work at First Baptist Church, Dallas, TX in 1956. A handsome young man named Jack Emerson Hood from Fort Smith followed the energetic and vivacious Anne to Dallas and they were married April 17, 1958. Jack was Annes source of unfailing encouragement as she poured her heart into working with young married couples and building a strong network of support for families through the Sunday School program. Jack faithfully supported Anne in her lifes calling until his death on December 4, 2006. Anne sought out people and always made them feel welcome and worked tirelessly to help and encourage couples in any way she could. In addition, Annes grand vision and attention to detail were gifts she used to plan and coordinate revivals, anniversary celebrations, retreats, and many special events for the church.
There was never a dull moment with Anne as she was gregarious and quick to laugh with a twinkle of mischief in her eyes. Anne always jumped at the chance to start a conversation with anyone she encountered. Anne loved people. She was a story teller extraordinaire and it was not uncommon to find her at the center of any gathering spinning a tale. She was always the life of the party. After serving over 30 years as Young Married Director at FBC, Anne retired from working at the church, but she never retired from serving the Lord.
The family would like to express our extreme gratitude to Annes best friend of 50 years, Mollie Nance, who so faithfully and sacrificially cared for Anne over the past 2 years. We are also grateful to Charlean Watson, her gifted caregiver who lovingly tended to her for the past year.
Anne is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Jack Emerson Hood, Jr. and wife, Melissa and Clark Ellison Hood and wife, Sherrill. Anne was Grandannie to four precious grandchildren whom she adored: Richard Emerson Hood, Haleigh Anne Hood, Harrison Clark Hood, and Michael Ellison Hood.
Funeral services will be held in the main sanctuary of First Baptist Church on Friday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church she loved so dearly, First Baptist Church, 1707 San Jacinto Street, Dallas, TX 75201.
