Obituary

Ann Louise Smith was born to Roy Leon and Iva Pauline Wilson in Ardmore, OK on October 20th, 1939. She grew up in Ardmore in the house her father built, loved going to Emmanuel Baptist Church, and graduated from Ardmore H.S. in 57. She attended Southeastern State College in Durant, OK, served as hall president, class secretary, and was involved in her sorority and the Baptist Student Union. It was there she met James Leslie Smith, whom she married in 60. She graduated with honors with a BS in Elementary Education and minor in Art in 61. They moved to Achille, TX where James pastored a Baptist Church for a stint, and then on to Shawnee, OK where he furthered his education at OBU. Following this they came to Dallas where Ann taught for 7 years at Berean Christian Academy. In 77 they bought a home and started a business in Irving, TX. Ann began substitute teaching in the IISD, primarily at Farine Elementary, allowing her to devote more time to being a mom. She was very involved in the PTA, receiving the TX PTA Lifetime Membership Award, as well as serving in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She retired in 04 from teaching after 23 years. Her hobbies included writing poetry and music, playing tennis and table tennis, and rooting for the Cowboys, TX Aggies, and OU. She and James led worship in their Sunday school and were in the Calvary Church choir for many years. She dearly loved her family, friends, and neighbors, keeping in touch with many calls, letters, and cards. She also loved trees, flowers, and animals, having cared for 5 dogs alongside James. Her greatest love was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom she faithfully followed until she breathed her last on March 20th, 2023 at the age of 83. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, James Smith, and her brother, Charles Wilson. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Stephen and Nathan Smith, daughter-in-law, Christine Smith, and grandchildren, Rachael Smith and Annelise, Noah, and Elijah Smith. Donations may be made to the Asian Christian Academy in India (www.acaindia.org) in lieu of flowers. SERVICES
